Post Views 4Children’s Hospitals and Clinics in Minneapolis is bracing itself for layoffs. The struggling economy and a large number of Medicaid patients have forced the hospitals to reduce costs.
Medicaid only pays health care providers 80 percent of their costs. The missing twenty percent amounted to $43 million in 2009. Over the past year, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics has seen their Medicaid insured patients rise from 38 percent to 44 percent.
The company says they could lose up to 250 full-time positions. The 250 positions will be comprised of layoffs, early retirements and leaving many positions vacant. The layoffs will take place in mid-November.
