The County Executive for Rensselaer County, New York, Kathy Jimino, is pointing the finger at New York for her county’s financial troubles, which is bound to result in some layoffs.

Jimino said the state government was “out of touch with reality” and called for a 4.9% increase on property taxes, which would raise taxes anywhere from $30 to $564 per $100,00 of property value.

Jimino’s proposed budget would include a workforce reduction of 2 percent out of the county’s 1,750 employees. Most of the 38 job cuts would come through early retirement and attrition, while three of them would be considered layoffs.
