BBC Demotes HR Chief To Subcommittee

The BBC recently removed its HR chief, Lucy Adams, from its executive board after being placed under “enormous political pressure.”

The broadcaster was advised that it would have to reevaluate the way it operates, as well has the importance of having an HR executive on the board. The HR chief now sits on a new subcommittee according to sources.

The BBC is now being scrutinized for its decision, especially from the human resources sector.

Will Trenchard is the director of ICP Search, an executive recruitment firm. Trenchard says, “I think that removing HR from the board is bound to have an adverse affect on how the company values HR. In certain organizations it can send the wrong signal about career development.

Some expect that Adams will leave the company shortly. Trenchard said, “I would have thought [Adams] will leave. Particularly because it is a high-profile position and to be taking a step sideways or below, it possibly undermines her career.”
