Georgia’s Unemployment Rate Holds at 10 Percent

The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that unemployment in Georgia remained at 10 percent in September, despite the fact the number of jobs in the state decreased and the number of people out of work grew.

The figures were provided Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor. According to the agency, the number of payroll jobs fell by 0.2 percent from August to September and the number of long-term unemployed increased by 16,600 from August to 142,200.

The10 percent unemployment rate is a slight improvement from this time last year, when it was 10.1 percent, but Georgia remains above the national unemployment rate (9.6 percent) for the 36th consecutive month.
