New Jersey FlagAccording to the New Jersey state labor department, 20,200 non-farm jobs and 7,600 local government jobs were lost in the month of September.

The largest losses in employment last month were sustained by educational services, loosing 5,400 positions, and professional and business services, reducing 4,500 jobs. Conversely, the manufacturing sector saw the largest employment increase, adding a 1,800 jobs over the same time period.

Governor Chris Christie halted work earlier this month on the trans-Hudson tunnel project, the largest infrastructure-construction project in the U.S., which already sustained the loss of 3,500 in September.
