Cincinnati to Cut Police Officers
Post Views 1Officials of the Cincinnati police department have made a proposal to cut 144 officers and demote an additional 160 in an attempt to reach a $16 million expense savings goal set by City Manager Milton Dohoney.
“This is not to say that somebody isn’t going to pull a rabbit out of a hat and save some of these jobs,” said Capt. Steve Luebbe whose own daughter might be cut.
The department owes $4 million to the federal government for a city grant that was given two years ago which saved 50 positions at that time.
The average officers salary, including benefits, is $100,000 and the department as a whole consumes 37% of the cities total budget.
