Motricity, a Washington-based provider of integrated mobile data solutions for mobile devices, axed 12 workers at its Durham, North Carolina headquarters on Monday in line with the company’s restructuring plan. However, the wireless technology company gave assurances that the Durham office will continue its operation and will remain open.

Jennifer Morgan, Motricity spokeswoman, said that the affected employees will be assisted accordingly. “The cuts were part of a recent reorganization. These employees are being considered for other internal positions worldwide and have received details about our severance benefit offering.” In 2008, the company laid off over 100 employees when it moved its headquarters from Durham to the Seattle area.”

Motricity is a one of the largest and leading developers of mobile software that allows wireless carriers like the AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile USA and Verizon to sell digital content to their customers. The company also operates in other countries such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Indonesia and Singapore. The job cut at Motricity, while small, is one of the latest additions to the growing US unemployment rate.
