More than 1,600 employees in Hanford, Washington will lose their jobs later this year once the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act spending ends.

CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Co., which was paid $1.3 billion out of the stimulus, will slash up to 1,350 jobs between July and September. Those layoffs will be a mix of both voluntary and involuntary.

Mission Support Alliance, another contractor in the Hanford area, announced plans for 300 voluntary layoffs by the end of September. Those layoffs will come in two rounds.

The first round will occur next month, when workers who volunteer leaving their positions in March or April. The next round will come in May, with those chosen leaving by September 30th.

Mission Support Alliance did not receive stimulus funds.
