Tyco Electronics Ltd. Will lay off 248 of the 700 employees at it’s manufacturing plant in Shakopee, Minnesota.

In a move similar to that of Electrolux, who announced plans to shift 400 jobs out of Webster City, Iowa over to a new manufacturing site in Mexico, Tyco will also be moving the majority of its operations over to Mexico in the town of Juarez. Additionally, the company will maintain another site in Teresa, New Mexico.

Tyco will be shutting down its site in Eden Prairie, Minnesota and reducing operations in Shakopee.

Last year, the company purchased the Eden Prairie-based ADC Telecommunications Inc. for $1.25 billion.

Tyco Electronics is Switzerland-based company, with a U.S. headquarters in Pennsylvania.
