It is very common to make mistakes in this kind of a job. Even the most experienced of the lot are not flawless at their work. You are just a starter. Therefore it is expected that you will make mistakes and you will learn from them also.

Jobs in PR are often research based. Therefore, there is a lot of assumption that needs to be made. Sometimes we go wrong in the assumption and therefore some of our projects fail. Here are some mistakes that you as a PR intern should keep away from. This will save your company as well as your job!

The mistakes:

  • Hard advertisement means hard selling of a product.
This is a common fallacy that people make in their PR jobs. If you want to sell a product there is no rule which says that you have to give all your attention to the advertisement strategy. To a lot extent the advertising strategy matters. But you should also focus on other things. Let the target audience take interest in your product. Let them compare it with other products and then choose your product over the rest. You can not apply forced selling on people. That is unethical too. Let people grow their interest and that will make them purchase.
  • Subtle advertisement does not by any chance mean keeping silent.
This is an opposite case to the previous mistake. There can be a subtle style of advertising. But that is not equivalent to being silent. Remember that there is cut throat competition in the market. If you are silent even for just a while, you are paving way for your rivals to come and take your place. You can ruin the business of the PR firms by staying silent. You can ruin your job too.
  • Taking to wrong people at the wrong place:
It is a common belief that celebrities endorsing products have an impact on the minds of the people. To some extent this is true. But keep in mind that all products in the market can’t be handled by celebrities. Neither can you be so sure of the extent the advertisement will have its effect on people. You must take all actions keeping the target audience in mind and the ad should be formulated according to that. If you can’t persuade the target audience the whole effort will go to waste! You also know what hazards it can bring upon your firm and upon you!
