The human resources firm 3103 HR, which is quickly growing, has appointed its first non-executive director in the person of experience management consultant and business coach Myles Mayne.

The firm is based in Bristol and it working towards becoming a nationwide business. The company is using a hub of regionally-based associates and a growth plan which could see close to 150 associates joining the firm over the next 18 months. The appointment of Mayne is just the latest step in improving the firm’s standing in the human resources field.

Mayne was the director at Adler International Learning UK and the founder of the Professional Coaching Alliance. He was also the European marketing director at Fuji Bank Investment Management and also worked at human resources and consulting company Watson Wyatt before he became a European partner with Mercer Consulting.

Alli Hootn, a managing consultant for 3103 HR, said the following about the appointment of Mayne:

“We are a rapidly-growing business that is attracting many more clients, despite the economic downturn. I felt that we could really benefit by having the board strengthened, specifically in the areas where we expect most challenge in the next two years. Our accelerated business development plan, and the innovative structure we are developing, is going to create a need for management skills and experience which is hard to find in any single small business.

We are often called to support our clients as they fill gaps in their own management resources or expertise, without wanting to build these people into their structure on an ongoing basis, so by appointing a non-executive director for the first time we are essentially practising what we preach. We were looking for someone with specific knowledge of growing a business, a good understanding of our sector, an ability to coach and mentor our leadership and management teams, and above all a real grasp of what we are trying to build at 3103 HR. I believe we have found this in Myles.”

Mayne had the following to say about his appointment to the company:

“HR has often been seen as a necessary but unloved element in a business, primarily concerned with ‘hiring and firing’, absence and sickness management, and possibly some performance monitoring.

However a new model is emerging – the highly qualified HR professional who is commercially minded and has a strategic, value added role to play within a business. These are the kinds of individuals which 3103 HR provides and by doing so, the company is well ahead of the game.”
