Due to the ouster of a city manager in the Miami Beach area, the city could now end up paying nearly half a million dollars and possibly even more. This is not a good thing for taxpayers living in the area. Some time ago, Jorge Gonzalez sent out a resignation, which was expected after several weeks of controversy and turmoil that occurred. After sending in his resignation, officials for the city wanted to know how much compensation Gonzalez had received. The human resources department for the city ended up providing the answer, stating that the compensation was $501,768.77.

An e-mail message was recently sent in which a spreadsheet was attached that showed compensation Gonzalez received within the span of an entire year. Gonzalez received an annual salary of $231,000, along with a $24,000 allowance for housing. He also received thousands of dollars for time off, pension and insurance policies. The information placed in the spreadsheet came directly from the payroll system that Miami Beach city has set up. The amount of compensation Gonzalez has received is actually very important, especially because there was a lot of controversy that led to his resignation.

Gonzalez chose to resign after being forced to do so. His contract was not expected to expire until August of 2013 but the contract also said that he could receive compensation if there was any sort of suggestion that he should resign. It is obvious that he will receive a severance payment but the question at hands is how much money he should actually receive. The city knows the amount of money he expects to receive but they are looking into it to decide how much of the money he should receive.

In the meantime, Gonzalez claims that he has not been demanding about his severance payment. He says that he has talked with several lawyers for the city but there has not been much focus on the amount of money he will receive. He claims that he is well aware that the amount could change and is not upset by it. Gonzalez resigned from his position at the beginning of July, on the 8th to be exact. Even though he has resigned, he is still on the city payroll.

There were several commissioners in the city who said they were shocked at the figures provided on the spreadsheet from the human resources department. One commissioner, Jonah Wolfson, believes it would be absolutely absurd and ridiculous to pay him around half a million dollars in severance payments and claims that it is simply not going to happen.
