Most of us think we know what Comcast does, but really the company is quite varied and when you look at all of the things that the company does you may be surprised.

For those of you who have never done the research here is a look at how the company has chosen to describe itself, “Comcast Corporation (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK) (www.comcast.com) is one of the nation’s leading providers of entertainment, information and communications products and services. Comcast is principally involved in the operation of cable systems through Comcast Cable and in the development, production and distribution of entertainment, news, sports and other content for global audiences through NBCUniversal. Comcast Cable is one of the nation’s largest video, high-speed Internet and phone providers to residential and business customers. Comcast is the majority owner and manager of NBCUniversal, which owns and operates entertainment and news cable networks, the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks, local television station groups, television production operations, a major motion picture company and theme parks.”

Sadly the company is getting ready to make another layoff action happen in the very near future.  The company filed a notification with the state of Florida about an impending 89 layoffs. The notice slates the layoffs as occurring between Oct. 26 to Nov. 8. For Comcast however this is only one in a string of mass layoff actions this summer.

Earlier this month the company announced that they were going to be laying off more than 100 workers in a bid to save on cash.  For those of you who missed out on our coverage the first time around here is an excerpt that will get you up to speed in no time at all, “The company is going to be cutting back on 106 workers at its Tinley Park facility, which is more than enough to qualify as a mass layoff action under the current guidelines for a mass layoff action.”

Before that in June the company made another mass layoff action happen, while this one impacted less than 100 workers it was still sizable. Here is an excerpt that will get you up to speed in no time at all, “Many people know Comcast for its cable television service or maybe its high speed Internet. The company is going to be cutting back on 59 workers at its location in Fischer, Illinois. These job cuts are coming from a facility that only employs about 270 workers on the whole, so the job cuts are going to be just under ten percent of the total work force at the current location.”
One should note that the company’s most recent release was not about the waves of layoffs, but instead about  adding more music choices for its Latino customers. Here is an excerpt from that release, “Comcast, one of the nation’s leading providers of entertainment, information and communications products and services, today announced that it has teamed up with Music Choice, the multi-platform video and music network, to bring Xfinity TV MultiLatino customers access to the most extensive collection of Hispanic music videos and original artist content ever On Demand. The collection, available immediately on Xfinity On Demand, with select videos also available on XfinityTV.com/LatinoTV, will soon include a total of 500 music videos and feature a wide variety of Spanish music genres and artists, including pop and rock Latino, romance, tropical, regional Mexican and a children’s category.”
