Federal prosecutors have recently charged a firm in the Wichita area with hiring an illegal immigrant to work as a manager for a restaurant at one of the McDonalds restaurants that it owns. The firm is in trouble because they knew the individual they hired was an illegal immigrant but still enabled that individual to work at the restaurant. The state of Kansas has recently been trying to crackdown on the trouble with illegal immigration, ensuring that the employers who hire these illegal workers are held accountable, especially since they are only doing this for their own advantage and, it is simply illegal.

The McCalla Corporation has been charged with a felony count for using a false document for the illegal immigrant as a way to enable the individual to work for the McDonald’s restaurant. The firm currently owns and operates six of the different McDonald’s that are scattered around the Wichita area. An attorney, Barry Grissom, recently made an announcement to reporters, stating that a plea agreement was made and, the company will have to pay a total of $400,000 worth of fines. Grissom made it clear that the company has been charged with only one count of felony but says that the investigation of the firm shows that they have actually hired a number of illegal immigrants and knew at that time that those individuals were illegal immigrants.

Grissom has said, “Employment is the primary driving force behind illegal immigration.” Grissom also said, “I’m calling on all Kansas employers to strengthen their hiring practices and to help us safeguard this nation by hiring and maintaining a lawful workforce.” In the meantime, the president for the McCalla Corporation, Roy McCalla, recently made a statement via his personal attorney, stating that the corporation is taking responsibility for all of the acts that have gone on with the company’s employees. He also says that this particular incident is not a reflection of the policies that have been set for his company. McCalla said, “This Corporation takes seriously its obligation to comply with the law and takes full responsibility for this single isolated incident charged by the government based on the action of one individual who is no longer employed by the company.” A hearing is set to take place in court on the 14th of November.

This current prosecution is actually the second to take place over the span of the past two months in the state of Kansas. The McCalla Corporation is not the only company to have knowingly hired illegal immigrants to take on a competitive advantage in the state of Kansas. In fact, the other prosecution took place with the owners of hotels in different areas in the state of Kansas.
