As of Tuesday, the Mt. Lebanon area will now be allowed advertisements to be placed on the school stadiums and the athletic fields. The regulation was finally passed earlier this week, on Tuesday to be exact. For the past few weeks, many residents gathered together for meetings, with one primary topic to discuss, which happened to be advertisements. Residents gathered together to discuss the fact that the parks in the area are poorly taken care of and that improvement need to be made but there is a lack of money to fund those improvements. The vast majority of the residents agreed that by selling spaces for advertisements, they would be able to generate revenue that could be used to make such projects happen without having to up the cost of taxes for the residents. It seems as though it will be an overall win-win situation.

One residents of Mt. Lebanon, Dave Franklin, says he is in support of the regulation and believes that it is a good idea to sell advertisement space to generate revenue. He even started up his own blog, Lebo Fields, as a way of keeping the topic open for everyone to learn more about, aside from just attending the meetings that have been held. The commissioners in Mt. Lebanon voted 4-1 for the advertisements on Tuesday. The only commissioner who was against the idea was Mat Kluck. The board President, Dave Brumfield, however, believed that it was the best idea, especially since tons of residents agreed with the ordinance as well.

With the regulation in place, there will be certain areas in which signs can be placed and there will be, of course, some requirements as well. The regulations will also pertain to the size of the advertisements, along with the maintenance of them all. Brumfield says that each of the advertisement signs can bring in thousands of dollars per year, ultimately depending on how large they are. With the money earned from the advertisers who choose to advertise in the area, different projects can be set up as a way of improving the area and helping with many concerns that the residents have had about the area.

Brumfield says that as of right now, the decision as to how the money will end up being handled is up in the air. The board also failed to mention who will be finding the advertisers but Brumfield claims that they are working through this step by step and that it is a process. And while some people may not like the idea of advertisements on fields, it is definitely not something that is unheard of, as there are many other areas that do this as well.
