Midcoast Aviation Lays Off 80 Workers at St. Louis Airport

Midcoast Aviation is laying off 80 workers at its base in St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia, Ill., according to KSDK-TV. Affected employees were notified of the layoffs on Wednesday.

According to the St. Louis Business Journal, Midcoast Aviation employed more than 1,600 workers in St. Clair County at the beginning of the year. The company was St. Clair County’s fifth-largest employer and third-largest private sector employer.

Midcoast has been a part of Switzerland-based Jet Aviation Group, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, since 2006. The company operates nine hangars at St. Louis Downtown Airport that covers 650,000 square feet.
