The mayor is calling for a cancellation of all raises and bonuses for the year, which might prevent layoffs. Top city officials are taking a 3.75% pay cut.
San Jose is the third-largest city in California and the tenth-largest in the United States. The county seat of Santa Clara County, it is located at the southern end of the San Francisco Bay Area, a region commonly referred to as Silicon Valley.
