In Allentown, Pennsylvania, advertising has finally started for construction bids that would be made on the American Parkway Bridge Project, which is a project that happens to be worth $37 million. The project has been long awaited in the city of Allentown and now, things are finally starting to fall into place. Contractors will have the opportunity to submit their own bids on the bridge, which will be connecting Route 22 with the downtown area of Allentown. Once the bids are submitted, they will officially be reviewed on the 21st of June. It is expected that construction will take quite a while and may even take up to two years in order for the construction project to be completely finished.

The director of public works for the city, Richard Young, said that he was not sure when the construction would start. He said it will ultimately depend on which contractor is chosen, especially since different contractors will be placing their bids for the project. Young pointed out that with each contractor, there are different rates that they like to set. Larger contractors may have the opportunity to get the project completed at a faster pace than a smaller contractor.

The construction of the American Parkway Bridge has been long-awaited and anticipated by the residents of Allentown, as this project is part of the revitalization of the city. It will also help to add convenience to the residence in the city by lessening the traffic in the area, especially since sports events that take place in the downtown Allentown area can cause a lot of traffic on the highway. This project for a bridge was proposed decades ago, basically over 50 years. And, now, it will finally be put together and finalized, with the help of federal funds.

The city first believed that it would cost about $58 million for the project the be completed but the city has, in fact, been approved for that amount even though new projections say that it will only cost $37 million for the bridge to be constructed in the city. Young says the reason the estimate has declined a bit is because the project was revised, with a few walls being eliminated and few ramps being eliminated as well. This is a good thing though because it will actually save the city millions of dollars while also providing the city with what it needs, a bridge that would add convenience to the residents and those who are traveling in and out of Allentown. And, while the bridge could take up to two years to build, many people are excited that it is finally being built after having been talked about for so many years.
