Liz Claiborne to Cut 725 Jobs

Apparel designer and retailer Liz Claiborne will eliminate 725 jobs, or 8% of its US workforce, in response to what it called a “challenging retail and economic environment.”

The New York-based company said the job cuts span all levels, and are expected to be completed by the end of Q1.

Claiborne will suspend merit pay increases for all employees, and close a distribution center in Mt. Pocono, Pennsylvania.

Liz Claiborne has now rid itself of about 2,200 staff positions around the world since 2007. It’s also closed six distribution centers.
