Financial Services firm USAA will relocate its Sacramento operations and part of its Norfolk, Virginia operations to San Antonio, Phoenix, Colorado Springs, and Tampa.

A USAA spokesperson says as a result of the consolidation as well as new job growth, the company is expected to add more than 1,000 new positions in the Alamo City, Texas. The company has a large headquarters campus located in San Antonio.

The consolidation is part of an effort to reduce expenses. Employees in good standing affected by the consolidation will be offered an opportunity to relocate to San Antonio or other USAA offices.

The consolidation and employee relocation efforts are expected to be completed by the end of September 2009.

The company has approximately 625 positions in its Sacramento office and 475 positions in Norfolk that are directly impacted by the consolidation. The Sacramento and Norfolk offices primarily employ staff from the company’s auto and property insurance operations. USAA says it plans to sell both facilities.

San Antonio-based USAA provides financial planning, insurance, investments, and banking products to members of the US military and their families. It currently has nearly 7 million members.
