The annual Teen Job Fair sponsored by the city of Santa Cruz, California has been canceled, due to a lack of employer participation.

“We weren’t able to recruit some of the bigger name companies from the area who participated in the Teen Job Fair in previous years,” said city recreation staffer Tremain Jones.

The free job fair had been scheduled for March 12th at the Santa Cruz Teen Center, offering a resume workshop and mock interview sessions along with an opportunity to apply for jobs.

Businesses that decided not to participate said they are seeing an influx of older, more experienced job applicants.

One employer that is recruiting: The city of Santa Cruz. Applications for summer recreation leaders are due April 17th at the Parks and Recreation Office.
