Hanes Cuts 46 at Virginia Service Center

Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based Hanesbrands has eliminated 46 jobs from its service center in Martinsville, Virginia.

The company had about 300 employees in Martinsville before the cuts.

In January the firm cut 310 jobs, closing a sock-knitting plant in Barnwell, South Carolina.

Hanesbrands has opened a plant in El Salvador, which will absorb most of the production from the Barnwell plant.

Since spinning off from Sara Lee in September 2006, Hanesbrands has closed at least 30 plants worldwide.
