Fairchild Semiconductor Shuts Pennsylvania Plant

The company, based in South Portland, Maine, cut its work force by 12% in December. Fairchild has nearly 10,000 employees.
It will close its wafer fabrication plant in Mountaintop, Pennsylvania, eliminating 200 jobs, as well as a four-inch line in South Korea.
Fairchild makes chips used in computer, telecommunications and automotive products.
