UNM Press Lays Off Employees, Plans Outsourcing

UNM PressThe University of New Mexico Press has laid off three employees, and will consider outsourcing additional jobs.

Marketing and sales manager Glenda Madden has worked at UNM Press for 33 years. Lisa Pacheco is the junior acquisitions editor.

The publicity department will also cut one of its two employees.

Proposals to outsource order fulfillment operations, including warehousing, shipping & receiving and customer service functions, have been solicited to outside companies.

The outsourcing could affect nine full-time and part-time employees and three student employees.

The 80-year-old UNM Press prints books for more than 30 client publishers, such as the Museum of New Mexico Press, New Mexico Magazine, West End Press, La Alameda Press, Fresco Fine Art Publications, and the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology.
