International Paper Closing Missouri Plant, Cutting 100 Jobs

International PaperInternational Paper will close its box plant in Fairfax, Missouri, eliminating 100 jobs by early June.

The company, which operates two other area plants, acquired the Fairfax plant from Weyerhaeuser’s packing division last year.

The company said it will discuss a severance package with the United Steelworkers Local 348. The union represents nearly 70 workers at the plant.

International Paper has plants in Kansas City and North Kansas City employing 163 people combined. The company also has a St. Joseph factory with 140 employees.
