U of WashingtonThe University of Washington will eliminate about 1,000 employee positions, including an undisclosed number of layoffs.

The cuts will heavily affect administration and communications. Layoffs will be announced as early as the end of April.

In March, the school eliminated 70 jobs from its University Advancement division.

The state Senate’s budget proposal contains a 23% cut to UW funding. The budget cut will take 10,000 students per year out of the state’s four-year university system.
