Weyerhaeuser Lays Off 54 in Washington State
Post Views 1Timber company Weyerhaeuser will close its Bay City log export facility in Aberdeen, Washington, within the next month. Fifty-four people will lose their jobs.
The Federal Way, Washington-based forestry firm recently shuttered its wood-products factory in Perry County, Kentucky, putting 165 employees out of work.
Founded in 1900, Weyerhaeuser is one of the largest pulp and paper companies in the world; the world’s largest private owner of softwood timberland; and the second largest owner in the US, behind International Paper. Weyerhaeuser has approximately 41,000 employees in 18 countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, Mexico, Ireland, France, and Uruguay.
