CarrierThe Tyler Refrigeration plant in Niles, Michigan will shut down permanently over the next three months, eliminating jobs for 500 people.

Farmington, Connecticut’s Carrier Corporation will cease manufacturing and selling Tyler-branded commercial refrigeration products. The firm was the largest manufacturer in the town of 12,200.

Forty managers were laid off this week. The remainder of the workforce will be laid off over the next 90 days.

The Carrier Corporation is the world’s largest manufacturer and distributor of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. A wholly owned subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, Carrier is a $12.5 billion company with over 43,000 employees serving customers in 170 countries on six continents.
