Foundation Coal HoldingsFoundation Coal Holdings reports that its Central Appalachian affiliates cut 60 jobs due to reduced demand.

The Linthicum Heights, Maryland-based coal mining company said the production cuts are within the range it predicted to investors.

Abingdon, Virginia’s Alpha Natural Resources will acquire Foundation Coal in August or September, for $1.5 billion in an all-stock deal, creating the third-largest US coal producer.

Foundation Coal Holdings operates coal mines in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wyoming, and is the fourth-largest American coal producer by tonnage.
