Wichita KS Tries to Save Park Workers’ Jobs

wichitakansas_160x120Wichita, Kansas City Manager Robert Layton has unveiled a new budget plan that would save some city jobs.

The initial budget proposal would have outsourced park lawn care, laying off 50 workers. The new budget, contingent on concessions from the employees’ union, would save an undisclosed number of those positions.

The new budget also cuts money for street maintenance, possibly affecting jobs. It also cuts the number of School Resource officers in half.

Wichita is a city in, and the county seat of, Sedgwick County, Kansas. The 2006 estimated population of 361,420 made it the 51st largest city in the country, and the most populous city in Kansas. Wichita is located in south central Kansas on the Arkansas River.
