Bayer MaterialScience to Lay Off 40 in West Virginia

bayermaterialscience_160x12Bayer MaterialScience will close its plant in New Martinsville, West Virginia, putting 40 on the dole queue.

The plant produces coatings, adhesives and specialty resins. The firm will send the work to Europe, Asia, and other US locations.

The facility will have 260 employees after the layoffs.

Wetzel County had a 14.3% unemployment rate in June.

Leverkusen, Germany’s Bayer MaterialScience is an independent subgroup within Bayer AG. It manufactures and develops materials such as coatings, adhesives and sealants, polycarbonates (CDs, DVDs), and polyurethanes (automotive seating, insulation for refrigerating appliances). Bayer MaterialScience has approximately 30 production sites around the globe.
