Post Views 3Patriot Coal will shut down a surface mine in West Virginia, putting 314 people on the street by October. The layoffs are permanent.
The Boone County mine, operated by Patriot subsidiary Catenary Coal, spans three counties.
The closure will will affect employees at the mine, plus workers at Catenary’s plant, warehouse and offices.
Patriot Coal Corporation is based in St. Louis, Missouri. It is one of the largest coal miners east of the Mississippi River, with 13 mining complexes in West Virginia and three in Kentucky.
