Coke Plant to Shut Down; 60 NY Jobs Lost

A Coca Cola Bottling plant in Rochester, New York will stop production in November, leaving 57 manufacturing workers jobless.

About 120 sales and distribution workers will remain.

Founded in 1886, Atlanta’s Coca-Cola Company sells its signature carbonated soft drink in more than 200 countries. Originally intended as a patent medicine when it was invented in the late 19th century by John Pemberton, Coca-Cola was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led Coke to its dominance of the world soft-drink market throughout the 20th century.
