New York MTA Poised to Lay Off 1,000 Workers
Post Views 1New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority is on the verge of laying off about 1,000 workers, according to multiple published reports out Tuesday.
The MTA cites decreased revenues and a growing deficit as reasons for the cuts, which could save the agency around $50 million. The New York Daily News reports the layoffs will include 600 employees in the administrative department and 450 subway station agents.
In December, the MTA board approved several cost-saving measures, including trimming bus and train service. There will be public hearings on the proposal in March.
