domtar_160x120Canada-based forestry firm Domtar Corp. is closing its paper mill in Columbus, Miss. and 219 jobs will be affected, according to a regulatory filing.

Domtar said it is getting out of the coated groundwood paper business and the mill will cease operations by the end of April, Reuters reports.

“Market conditions for coated groundwood paper are challenging and despite the best efforts of our employees – and these efforts have been commendable – the mill continues to suffer from a weak cost position,” Chief Executive John Williams said in a statement.

Domtar also revealed it selling its coded groundwood paper product lines produced in Columbus, along with the mill’s inventory, to NewPage Corp for an undisclosed amount, according to the Canadian Press.
