Sales and general administration staff were among 137 workers that were laid off Tuesday at three Stanley Black & Decker locations in the Greater Baltimore area.

A company spokesman told the Baltimore Business Journal the cuts were made at the company’s headquarters in Towson and facilities in Towson, Hunt Valley and Hempstead, which were part of the company’s power tools division. The layoffs were part of Stanley’s previously announced plan to shed about 10 percent of the company’s workforce of about 39,000, the story notes.

Stanley still employs about 1,250 people in its Baltimore County power tools division, “which is still a very significant corporate presence,” noted David Iannucci, director of the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development.

The restructuring is the result of $4.5 billion merger between Black & Decker and Stanley Works.
