Atlanta is looking to lay off numerous city employees, starting with workers at the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The mayor’s office in Atlanta assured these layoffs are necessary this year, despite Mayor Kasim Reed’s best hopes to avoid them.

Reed’s staff confirmed on Wednesday that 67 airport workers will be fired and 62 vacant positions are to be removed.

In reference to the other city jobs that are in jeopardy, the mayor’s office has yet to disclose exact numbers. A four-paged summary of the actions relevant to the $578 million city budget released, and more disclosures are said to be coming soon.
