losangelesseal_160x120On Tuesday, L.A.’s City Counsel Finance and Budget committee presented a budget that recommends the elimination of an additional 1000 jobs, reports the Los Angeles Times.  These job cuts are in addition to the 761 positions already slated by L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in his proposed annual budget.  The City Counsel budget proposal will go to full committee on Friday.

The city of Los Angeles has been plagued with budget woes and the discussion on how to resolve the over $485 million deficit has turned rancorous in recent months.

In addition to the City Council’s proposed job cuts, an initiative  developed by the mayor to privatize parking in the city as a means to raising revenue was also eliminated from the City Counsel’s proposal.  The mayor’s office projected the plan would raise some $54 million.  One council member called any such revenue “fake money”.
