Yonkers, NY Cutting Services Amid Layoffs

The office of Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone announced on Friday municipal service cuts including trash removal services, which would be cut to one day per week. The move is the latest in a long line of measures attempting to balance the city’s budget. The service cutbacks begin on June 28th and on July 1st the layoffs of some 50 Department of Public Works employees along with over 100 police, fire and parks workers go into effect.

Yonkers currently faces a projected budget deficit of $60 million for the coming fiscal year.
