Maine FlagThe GovMonitor has received news from Maine Governor John E. Baldacci that Kestral Aircraft Company will invest $100 million locally in its plans to locate to Brunswick Landing, the site of former Brunswick Naval Air Station.  Kestral will design and manufacture composite turboprop planes in Hangar #6 at the site, ramping up operations in 2011 after the station has been fully decommissioned.

Kestral comes to The Pine Tree State, as the Governor states, as the result of “local, regional, state and federal governments … all working cooperatively with the private sector on economic development.”

The new facility will initially employ up to 70 engineers who will work on the aircraft design phase of the program, expanding to approximately 300 total employees when Kestral begins production.
