Iowa Town To Get Electric Car Plant
Post Views 2Webster City, located in the heart of Iowa, will be soon be quietly rolling out electric cars, as many as 2,500 of them a week, reports The Des Moines Register. Ames-based Envision Motor Company has plans to open a new facility in Webster, creating some 300 jobs. This is welcome news for a town that recently lost over 800 jobs due to the recent closing of an Electrolux plant there.
Envision is yet one more company to turn its focus to production of alternative fuel vehicles. The company, which combines foreign-built car bodies with U.S. manufactured electrical components, hopes to compete with such companies as Chevy, Nissan and Toyota, who will all soon have electric vehicles on the market. These companies, as well, have been boosting hiring in communities hard hit by the recession.
