New Jersey FlagTrenton, New Jersey has a $60 million budget deficit. Unless the state of New Jersey, itself facing financial crisis, can come through with a significant portion of $60 million in aid, Trenton will be forced to lay off 111 policemen, 70 firemen and 200 other city employees. This according to Mayor Tony Mack, who was inaugurated 44 days ago with the task of fixing his predecessor’s budget gap.

Laruen Ira, spokeswoman for the mayor, said the 400-layoff-plan represents “the worst-case scenario, provided we don’t get one penny of capital aid or help from the state.”
