Union To Fight Chase’s 19 Janitor Layoffs
Post Views 5The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is not taking the layoffs of 19 janitors at a JP Morgan Chase location in the Century Plaza located in Los Angeles. The union will hold a demonstration for a week. They will fast, hold candlelight vigils and conduct a rally in order to stop JP Morgan Chase from terminating the employees.
Among the issues the union has with the layoffs is the $95 billion the company received last year in federal bailout money. They also emphasized the $9 million in bonuses given to JP Morgan executives.
“This is what is wrong with out economy: When a company thinks nothing of eliminating jobs to save pennies while doling out $9 billion in bonuses,” said David Huerta, the vice president of SEIU United Service Workers West.
The demonstrators will construct a tent city in front of Century Plaza today to kick off the demonstration.
