Cessna Aircraft is eliminating 700 jobs, the company said Tuesday. According to a report from the Associated Press, the layoffs are the result of Cessna underperforming in what the company called a“lackluster economy.”

“While cancellations have slowed, the recovery and growth we expected to see throughout the year have not materialized, and the timing of any recovery remains uncertain,” Cessna CEO Jack Pelton wrote in an e-mail to workers “This requires additional adjustment to our production schedules.”

According to the AP, Cessna had already eliminated some 8,000 since late 2008, which has cut the company’s workforce in half.

The latest layoffs will be companywide, but a timeline on when the 60-day notice will be given out has not been determined.

Cessna is based in Wichita, Kan. with an additional manufacturing plant in Chihuahua, Mexico.
