Medical equipment maufacturer C.R. Bard (branded as just “Bard”), has announced plans to cut around 200 jobs at their Queensbury, New York plant as they shift some production to other plants.

According to Bard’s spokesman, Scott Lowry, the company will be cutting around 20 percent of their 960 employees. Sixty of the jobs cut are temp positions, and will be the first to go as the company begins layoffs throughout the coming weeks.

No layoffs have occurred as of Thursday morning, Lowry said.

The company is attempting to “improve its overall cost structure and enhance operational efficiency,” Lowry said.

CEO of Bard, Timothy Ring, indicated that the company would be withdrawing its business from underperforming territories.

“What you’re seeing here – and I don’t think we’re unique in this respect – we’re going to be redeploying resources to the growth areas around the glob,” he said. “And those areas that are in the businesses that are a little bit slower, we’re going to pull resources out.”
