British owned defense contractor BAE Systems’ North American subsidiary will be laying off 50 employees at their West Manchester Township plant in York County, Pa. Half of the layoffs will affect union members. The other half consists of salaried employees, according to Kelly Golden.

“The company’s leaders appreciate the hard work and dedication of the entire workforce,” she said. “The reduction in for in no way reflects upon the work and dedication of employees affected by the reduction, and we will do all we can to assist them in this difficult transition.”

The layoffs took effect on Friday. According to Dana Edsall, the union president, should the company receive more work from the government, the laid off employees stand a good chance at being called back to work.
