Armstrong World Industries Cuts 114 Jobs In North Carolina

International designer and floor, ceiling and cabinet manufacturer Armstrong World Industries is cutting 114 jobs in Statesville, North Carolina.

The company will lay off 103 hourly employees as well as 11 salaried positions on April 29. On that date, the company will halt production at its engineered wood flooring plant, hence the layoffs.

According to David Mullis, general manager of Armstrong Floor Products, weak markets and gains in productivity elsewhere have led to the layoffs.

“There is nothing any one of us could have done differently or better to change this course of action,” said Mullis. “This is simply a question of current economic conditions requiring the company to make the best use of its capacity without impacting our customers.”
