“Jobless claims remain elevated, and this will remain the limpest economic recovery since the Great Depression,” said John Lonski, chief economist at Moody’s Economy. “The recent past shows that the economy tends to stagnate whenever share prices fail to rise,” said Lonski. ” Lonski said the recent rise in jobless claims is partly due to higher energy costs, which have led to higher prices for consumers. No states saw jobless claims ease last week. California and Texas followed — with jobless claim increases of 3,884 and 3,333, respectively.
