One of the nation’s premier providers of employment screening, Orange Tree Employment Screening, announced this week that it has achieved accreditation from the Background Screening Credentialing Council. The company also provides background screening and drug testing services. Any firm that has been credited meets NAPBS standards for excellence, accountability, professionalism and ongoing organizational improvement.

Orange Tree’s accreditation was issued after the company successfully completed a yearlong review of its policies, adherence to federal and state screening regulation, and its procedures. NAPBS has only accredited Orange Tree in the state of Minnesota and one of only 20 companies accredited by NAPBS across the country. To make the company more impressive, Orange Tree is the only company in the United States to be accredited by NAPBS and the Substance Abuse Program Administrators Association, which was issued in 2008.

Orange Tree was judged by NAPBS on the following requirements:

— Data and information security

— Legal and compliance standards

— Client education

— Research standards

— Verification standards

— Business practices (due diligence practices, character and ethics, quality processes)

“In a world where proper background screening is difficult for responsible organizations to do on their own, accreditation tells our clients that Orange Tree stands for the industry’s highest professional and ethical standards,” said Steve Mihalik, chief revenue officer, Orange Tree. “Accreditation provides our clients with a high degree of assurance that we follow the standards set by the industry.”

Millions of background check reports are requested each year by United States employers, organizations, and governmental agencies. Those reports are then regulated at the federal and state levels. The Background Screening Agency Accreditation Program was created in 2009 by NAPBS in an effort to provide the industry with one standard of excellence that is cohesive. In the United States, there are more than 400 companies that operate as background screeners for employers and their employees.

“Receiving accreditation is a great honor, but simply going through the year-long accreditation process was a tremendous learning, assessment and growth experience for Orange Tree,” said Heidi Seaton, director of implementation and compliance. “Now that we’ve earned accreditation, our task, on behalf of our clients, is to ensure our company and employees continue to adhere to these high standards.”

Orange Tree was founded in 1990 and provides employment screening to more than 2,000 companies across the country. Orange Tree’s headquarters is in Edina, Minnesota, which is a suburb of Minneapolis. The company provides its clients with risk management, information integration, efficiency analysis, and security tools to make informed decisions.  Employment screening is incredibly important these days as it provides companies with information on their potential employees. The information provided to the companies includes criminal records and other potential information that could keep the company from hiring the employee. All background checks will be kept in possession of the company for future reference.
