Unemployment benefits may change in the Michigan area very soon. The fact of the matter is, when unemployment benefits were first created in Michigan around 1936 by the Michigan Employment Security Act, the purpose of these benefits was to help assist jobless people who lost their job due to lack of work, something that they had no control over, according to the Michigan View.

What this means is, changes are expected to come to the benefits in which people who are at fault for the loss of their job would not be eligible for these benefits. Certain behaviors would obviously prove to be the fault of the employee and not the employer and the company or lack of work at the company or business.

Some of these behaviors include: Not showing up for the job and not contacting the employer. This is often called a “no call, no show” in which an employer does not show up for the job as expected during their time and does not call their employer to let them know why they did not show. This would be an obvious reason for termination.

Doing something that is illegal or against the rules at the job would also prove to be the fault of the employee and not the employer. If an individual drives trucks for a living and is pulled over by police for driving erratically or driving while intoxicated, they would likely lose their job but it would be their own fault. There are also some people who are simply not available to the employer because they do not list a working telephone number or actual address in which they can be contacted by their possible employer for work. All of these reasons would be reasons why a jobless person would not receive the benefits they think they deserve.

Some of the advocates for the unemployed disagree with these changes, which quite frankly, is ridiculous. The fact that advocates could even defend people who simply do not show up for the job like they are supposed to or do something illegal and against the rules is quite sad and pathetic. There are many people who agree with this change and believe that the advocates for unemployed people, who actually believe that these types of unemployed people deserve benefits, are surely wrong.

It is not fair to the unemployed people who lost their jobs due to lack of work that these other people who simply lose their jobs due to being irresponsible can also receive these unemployment benefits. Being irresponsible puts the employee at fault, not their employer. This is the great debate as most people ask the question, doe these people who lose their jobs due to being irresponsible deserve to receive unemployment benefits or no?
